World production of pineapple

Pineapple is now the third most important tropical fruit in world production after banana and citrus. It is cultivated in all tropical and subtropical countries.

World production of pineapple in 2010 is estimated at more than 19.42 million tons per year, and is dominated by Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Costa Rica, Chile, Vietnam and Brazil.

From 1990 to 2010, world production increased by 67.61%, from 11.59 million tones.

The fresh fruit trade is dominated by the Philippines while canned pineapple and pineapple juice are produce mainly by Thailand, Philippines and Indonesia.

Overall the Americas, Asia and Africa had significant increases in pineapple production during the last two decades 100.49%. 62.33% and 29.997% respectively.

The processing of pineapple as made the fruit well known throughout the temperature developed world. 

Major pineapple products of international trade are canned slices, chunks, crush and juice and fresh fruits.
