Green beans harvesting

A period of 50 – 70 days is required for planting to harvesting.  Green beans are harvested before the pods bulge.

The pods should ‘snap’ when break them apart. After all, that’s how they got the name ‘snap beans’. Most gardeners wait until the beans are the diameter of a pencil. They should be firm and just before the bean seeds forming inside start to show.

The oftener the gardener picks the beans, the more they will produce.

How to harvest green beans? Use one hand to hold the stem and one hand to remove pods. Always harvest pods when the plant is dry.

Upon harvesting, bean should be cooled 4.4 °C and held at that temperature until sold as the fresh products, or until processed.
