Okra cultivation

Okra (abelmoschus esculentus), is an annual vegetable crop grown in tropical and subtropical regions.

The seed should be drilled like garden peas in alight soil. The plants, to be thrifty, should be at last two feet apart. Okra can be cultivated in temperature zones. However, for a cultivation that gives satisfactory productions the okra requires temperature typical of tropical areas at least 25 °C average daily.

It is grown in sandy to clay soils but due to its well-developed tap root system, relatively light, well-drained rich soils are ideal.

All soils need to be pulverized, moistened and enriched with organic matter before sowing.

The seedlings in the nursery need to have water them sparingly; it is necessary to prevent the block dry ground, but at same time, it is necessary to avoid excessive water, especially during germination.

Seed germinate in 5-14 days. Germination can be speeded up by soaking in water for 24 hours.

Okra begins to yield edible pods about 2 months after planting, Pods are best about 46 days after flowering.
